The Ford Ironman Wisconsin, one of only five Ironman triathlons in the United States, will again be held in and around Madison on Sunday, September 10, 2006 and is currently recruiting volunteers.

The success of the race relies heavily on the support of volunteers. "We need about 4000 volunteers to help with numerous activities, each vital to coordinating this event." said John Eisele of Wisconsin Sports Development Corporation. "What's special about Ford Ironman is that it's a world class event that the community can get directly involved with. Many times events come and are purely spectator sports. Ironman puts you right in the action, whether peeling wetsuits off of athletes, encouraging them late in the race as a run course marshal or catching them as they stumble across the finish line."

To register online, please go to www.SportsInWisconsin.com and click on volunteer. Shifts are typically 2-4 hours in length and you will receive a Ford Ironman Wisconsin volunteer t-shirt and admittance to the volunteer appreciation banquet held on Monday, September 11, 2006. For more information please contact John Eisele at 608.226.4780 ext. 232 or jeisele@sportsinwisconsin.com.
