Wisconsin Sports Development Corporation is proud to announce the fourth annual Fit Kids Challenge Fun Run presented by Edgewood College. The route circles the capitol and the celebration will take place in the Janus tent at the Ironman expo on September 9, 2006.

The festivities will begin with the Fit Kids Fun Run around the Capitol finishing at the Ironman finish line. Al Brisack, Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach at Edgewood College will speak before the run. Eddie the Edgewood Eagle will lead stretching before the race and Edgewood athletes will run with the kids and sign autographs after the race. Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and Dr. Robert Matthew, pediatrician for Group Health Cooperative and spokesperson for the Fit Kids Challenge, will also participate in the run.

"Dane County is fortunate to have the Fit Kids Challenge. There are a lot of programs out there for adults, but the children are often neglected," says Mayor Cieslewicz. "The Fit Kids Challenge brings kid's health to the forefront and provides motivation as well as education for them to make healthy changes to their daily lives."

Registration opens at 7:30 am on the 200 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. The race begins at 8:30 am. After the race all participants are invited to the celebration which will take place near the finish line at the Janus tent in the Ironman expo. There will be free food and fun games such as a bean bag toss, the grand prize game, face painting, prize giveaways and many other activities.

The celebration is the culmination of the Fit Kids Challenge presented by Group Health Cooperative, a summer activity program that encourages kids to be active and adopt a healthier lifestyle. The program began on May 3, 2006.

Everyone is welcome to the Fit Kids Celebration regardless of participation in the program this summer. They may come and run or join the party.
